A new Integration

The History of a Press Ad - 3rd March 2010

 

From the rough..

After reading the brief we started generating lots of ideas (and cups of tea), after a while some ideas were transferred to presentable scamps (rough drawings). Of this presentable bunch of five routes this scamp, being the best, was chosen.

First course(s)

Scott’s being an international company put ads in many different territories – golf courses differ from country to country or even from coast to inland. The idea was to have our golfer playing in the right course for the right country. We came up with a range of environments in which our golfer could hit his shot. These were 'photoshopped' to see if they worked. A course was chosen that had a universal appeal, negating a fair bit of retouching and artworking complications. 

A fair way to go

After collating the images we painstakingly fitted all the parts together; the sky, then the land, which was greened up, the lake to which reflections of the sky were added, and the edges trimmed. As an extra touch, the pin flag was made Scotts orange.

Bad golfing pun here

The golfer was cut out from his original background and placed gently into the scene. We changed his shirt to Scotts orange (remembering to add orange reflections on his arms), we changed his inappropriate grey chinos for some proper green slacks and had some products placed next to him; creating the shadows was interesting.

At the eighteenth

The products were updated, new, better shadows were added and sleeves were rolled up to tackle the design and typography. Branding strips, a logo and contact information were put in place. The golf ball was halted mid air, becoming the focal point for the headline and copy making a fitting full stop.
